In November 2019, a pilot study began for water from the Chelmarsh Reservoir at the Hampton Loade WTW. This reservoir is fed by the river Severn, but provides sufficient residence time to dampen swings in water quality. ILCA®+CeraMac® was considered for a plant upgrade, and pilot testing was used to confirm a sustainable flux, backwash interval, and enhanced backwash interval. During the study, intense flooding from two major winter storm increased the color and organics load in the feed water; however the membrane was able to cope with little to no impact on performance.
