Peter Markus graduated from TU Delft with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s degree in Offshore Engineering. In the early years of his career, he worked in various engineering departments and the QA/QC department. With a passion for working with others, it was natural for him to grow into construction, project management, and general management. During that period, he also pursued an MBA at the Rotterdam School of Management. He is a technically skilled professional with a proven track record of delivering results, and who is passionate about what he does and always ready to take on new challenges and learn new things.

In his free time, Peter is a volunteer firefighter. He enjoys sports and spending time with friends and family.

 He shares his further thoughts through the interview questions below:

The world is facing a severe water crisis, and it’s time we wake up to the reality of the situation. In many regions around the globe, water scarcity is a pressing issue, exacerbated by climate change, pollution, and population growth. The United Nations predicts that by 2025, almost two-thirds of the world’s population could be living in water-stressed conditions.

For me, this is a serious and under-addressed issue in the Netherlands and the world. Growing up in the Netherlands, where access to water is so normal, we often take it for granted. As we face this water challenge, I believe we need to focus our resources and work together.

I joined PWNT because I see that PWNT and (the holding company) Nijhuis Saur Industries want to make a difference. They are purpose driven organizations and face these challenges with a clear mission, vision and strategy. For example: check out the #Missionwater movement, this is a great way to bring focus and to work together. Ensuring that everyone – utilities, industries, citizens, farmers, non-governmental organizations and civil society as a whole – gives water the value it deserves. Beyond our daily business of providing adequate supplies and responsible quality and treatment of water, we are committed to acting and to convincing others, so that together we can invest in saving water, reducing life-cycle costs, removing pollution, reusing water and heat and recovering energy and resources.
