In November 2011 the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held a technology transfer workshop at its headquarters in Manila, Philippines. About 60 representatives from member countries across Asia, which included ADB country managers and other local experts, joined the workshop. Jonathan Clement, Director of Technology Application of PWN Technologies, gave the opening presentation on water treatment technology and later led a discussion group. The workshop focused on the role that new and improved technology can play in the developing world.
Some of the important concluding remarks were that new technology is often perceived to be more complex and more costly, but in reality mainly these new technologies were created to be more compact, more simple and more cost effective. Jonathan commented “the most important issue is to create awareness of the new technologies, many people are not aware what is available – we need to let the industry know what the opportunities are so utilities and consultants can make well considered choices.”
