Your goal as Senior Researcher on Ion Exchange is to lead the technical assessments and decision for pilot studies of suspended ion exchange (SIX®) processes in drinking water production. This full-time role is part of our Technology Applications & Piloting Department, based in Amsterdam. You will report to the Pilot Team Lead and be a critical member of the team supporting our global pilot projects.

Your purpose
What will you be doing? We have listed it for you:
- Pilot Study Planning & Execution: Develop detailed pilot testing plans based on raw water characteristics and project requirements. Design and optimize experimental conditions for ion exchange trials. Coordinate with the pilot team to ensure smooth execution of pilot studies.
- Data Analysis & Interpretation: Analyze and interpret data from pilot trials under varying test conditions. Identify key performance indicators and trends in ion exchange system efficiency. Provide data-driven recommendations to refine the study approach.
- Technical Leadership & Decision-Making: Lead scientific decisions regarding pilot plant operations, act as a technical expert in ion exchange and water treatment chemistry. Support the transition from pilot-scale proof of concept to full-scale system design. Support the development of a company-wide, long term strategy for SIX®.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare progress reports and final reports summarizing findings and recommendations. Document key insights and lessons learned for future projects.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with internal teams (R&D, engineering, Business Development) to integrate findings, assist in the evaluation or troubleshooting of full-scale plant performance. Engage with clients, stakeholders, and project partners to communicate technical results.
- Mentoring & Team Development: Lead knowledge sharing initiatives, such as contributing to the development of the SIX® Community of Practice and support the development of junior and medior colleagues in IX.
What we're looking for
- PhD in a relevant field, such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Process Engineering or Master’s degree in a relevant field plus sufficient work experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in ion exchange in the water sector (drinking water, wastewater, or industrial water treatment), pilot plants, water treatment process optimization, or related experience.
- Strong knowledge of ion exchange processes, resin and performance, and water chemistry. Expertise in water quality analysis and interpretation and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience working with customers, regulators and internal teams to customize ion exchange solutions.
- Mentorship and team leadership skills.
- Willingness to travel (two or three times for a week per year).
